Located in a restored historic house in downtown Mendoza, this restaurant redefines the dining experience through an architecture that blends history, materiality, and atmosphere. The project builds upon an existing structure of brick walls and ironwork, integrating contemporary elements without erasing the traces of the past. The interior unfolds as a sequence of rooms connected by a covered central patio, where natural light filters through the aged textures of the walls and highlights the warmth of wood and metal details. The wine cellar, visible from various points, serves as the heart of the space: a double-height volume lined with shelving that displays the wine collection as part of a sensory narrative. Lighting, a silent protagonist, seeks to create a kind of “cloud of lights” floating above the dining area, combining pendant fixtures and spotlights to generate intimate scenes around each table. The material palette reinforces the dialogue between rustic and refined: exposed walls, stone floors, and dark wood are paired with wrought iron details and soft textiles that temper the atmosphere. A helical staircase connects the different levels, inviting guests to explore more private areas and secluded tasting corners. Toward the street, the discreet façade preserves the original identity of the house and establishes a subtle connection between interior and city. The sidewalk, activated by the project, becomes part of the public realm: a transitional space where the restaurant extends outdoors with permanent furniture, encouraging continuous use by locals and passersby. The project celebrates Mendoza’s culture of wine and gastronomy, transforming the culinary experience into an immersive journey where architecture, light, and material engage with the passage of time and the memory of place.
